EPG Troubleshooting

IPTV EPG Not Working? Diagnose It Step by Step

A blank or incomplete guide does not always mean the player is broken. Work through the source, assignment, stored data, channel mapping, and time settings in order so each check rules out one cause.

Identify the exact EPG symptom

Start by describing what still works. If channels play but every guide row is blank, focus on the EPG source and its assignment. If some channels have listings, the source loaded and the remaining problem is more likely coverage or mapping. If listings are present but old, check refresh and source freshness.

Do not reinstall the player at the first sign of trouble. Reinstallation can erase the configuration you need to inspect and does not fix an expired guide URL or mismatched channel ID.

Check the source and account response

Re-enter the EPG URL only if it differs from the original value. A missing character, trailing space, expired token, or authentication error can prevent the download. Test the address privately and confirm that it returns guide data instead of an HTML error or login page.

If the source is unavailable, refreshing or clearing the app cannot restore it. Contact the guide provider or use another authorized source rather than applying unrelated player changes.

Confirm source assignment and refresh state

Players with multiple playlists may load an EPG source without assigning it to the active playlist. Check that relationship explicitly. Then run one manual update and wait for completion before opening the guide.

If the player reports success but continues to show old data, clear only the EPG cache or guide database when the app provides that option. Avoid clearing the entire app storage unless you have backed up the configuration.

Fix missing or wrong channel matches

When only certain channels are blank, compare their playlist tvg-id values with the IDs in the XMLTV source. Similar display names do not guarantee a match. Map one channel manually as a test before editing the whole playlist.

If programmes appear beside the wrong channel, remove the incorrect manual assignment and establish a unique ID match. Duplicate names and generic labels such as HD or Local are weak mapping signals.

Rule out device and time problems

Restart the player and device after a completed refresh, especially if a background process was interrupted. Confirm there is enough free storage for the guide database and that a battery or data-saving mode is not preventing scheduled updates.

For listings that are consistently early or late, verify automatic time and time zone settings before using an EPG shift. A timing issue is different from a blank guide and should be diagnosed separately.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Why is my IPTV EPG blank when channels still work?

The video playlist and guide source are separate. The EPG URL may have failed, may not be assigned to the playlist, or may not match the channel IDs.

Should I clear app data to fix the EPG?

Clear only the guide cache first, if that option exists. Clearing all app data can remove playlists, favorites, and settings, so back them up before using it as a last resort.

Why do only some channels have EPG data?

The source may not cover every channel, or the missing channels may use playlist IDs that do not match the XMLTV IDs.
